Warlock Mount F.A.Q.

Frequently asked questions about Warlocks and our Mounts

World of Warcraft offers a variety of mounts for the different races, however us Warlocks (and stinky Paladins) are special in that we receive a class based mount on top of the racial variety. Unlike the Gryphons and Wyverns we ride via the flight paths, a personal mount is on your character at all times and can be called for when ever it is required. Once you’ve experienced the speed increase of a mount, you’ll never go back to walking!

Q) So what are the “special mounts” Warlocks get?
A) As you’ve most likely guessed from the images above, the Felsteed and Dreadsteed are the two Warlock mounts.

Q) What level do I get these mounts?
A) The Felsteed is obtainable from level 40 onwards, the Dreadsteed at level 60.

Q) How much does the Felsteed cost?
A) A whopping 90s (with no factional discounts). See why it’s so cheap here.

Q) Cool! How much does the Dreadsteed cost?
A) The price varies depending on what quest components you can collect/create yourself, but expect to spend a minimum of around 250g. See the shopping list for the Dreadsteed here.

Q) Can I get a normal racial mount as well as / instead of my Warlock one?
A) You sure can! Regardless of if you choose to take your Warlock mount, you can still purchase and use your racial mount, cross racial mount if you raised your reputation and/or PvP mount.

Q) Hrm, so what are my racial mounts?
A) Humans ride a standard Horse, purchasable from the Eastvale Logging Camp in Elwynn Forest, while Gnomes ride a very noisy Mechanostrider which you can pick up just outside of Karanos in Dun Morogh. Over on the Horde side we have the Skeletal mount for Undead (Brill), the Wolf for Orcs (Orgrimmar) or the Hawkstriders for Blood Elves (Eversong Woods).

Q) I heard we get the riding skill for free once we obtain the mounts, is this true?
A) Yes, when you train your Felsteed at level 40 you are automatically given the Apprentice riding skill. If you choose to complete your Dreadsteed quest over purchasing a level 60 epic mount, you are automatically given the Journeyman riding skill. Note that if you choose not to take these mounts, you will have to purchase the riding skill in order to ride other mounts.

Q) I can’t find my mount in my bags! Why?!
A) Unlike the racial mounts other classes ride, our Felsteed and Dreadsteed are in fact spells, so instead of taking up a bag slot, you will find it located under the Demonology Tab of your spell book.

Q) I have more questions about the Dreadsteed quest…
A) Because the quest to obtain the Dreadsteed is fairly in depth, the guide to obtain it includes its own F.A.Q. section which should answer most of your questions. If you are still having troubles however, please make use of the forums as we have many Warlocks who have done it all before!

Q) Hey! This F.A.Q. didn't answer my question!

A) No problemo! If you're finding yourself still asking questions about Warlocks and the mounts we ride, head on into the forums and as away! You'll find that unlike the official forums and other sites, we have a large range of very knowledgeable Warlocks that are all too happy to help.  >> Forums <<
