Spell F.A.Q - Warlock Stones Firestones, Spellstones, Soulstones, oh my!
Firestones
What are Firestones? Firestones are conjured items that can be equipped in the wand slot and add Fire damage to the Warlock's weapon and bonus Fire Spell damage. When equipped, it enchants the main hand weapon with fire, granting each attack a chance to deal additional Fire damage. Most Warlocks however would use it for the additional spell damage if at all - you will usually find a wand that provides more. If logged out for more than 15 minutes, your firestone will disappear.
Are Firestones transferable? No. As Firestones are soulbound, they can only be used on yourself.
Can I give a Firestone to my pet? Unfortunately, we can't give them to our pet to increase their damage. That said, something to remember is that your pet's attack power and spell damage is increased by your fire damage, so in a way, having a Firestone equipped does still benefit the pet.
How much spell damage does the Firestone add? Each rank increases the amount of fire damage added. Rank 1, available as early as level 28 will increase your fire damage by 10 points, while rank 5, available from level 66 will add 30.
Note - Talent Improvements Although I doubt there are many Warlocks out there that would recommend it, Master Conjuror is a talent you can take in the Demonology tree to improve your Firestones. Two points spent there will increase the bonus Fire damage by 30%.
Healthstones
What are healthstones? Healthstones are items you will get used to creating - they are instant cast heals that are on a separate timer to potions and can be beefed up with Talents. These can be life savers when you are soloing, and in a group people should never say no. A lot of the times people will forget they are in their bags and not make use of them, however if you notice your group in a bit of trouble, and your healer is frantically trying to keep everyone alive, a gentle reminder in group chat to "pop your HS" will come in mighty helpful. You should always give your healer a healthstone as they can sometimes get very high agro with the mobs and may not always be able to get a heal off on themselves, this may save their life. Be a good Warlock, look after your healer.
Are healthstones transferable? Absolutely! In order to pass a healthstone to someone, create your stone and locate it in your inventory. Once found, left click on it and then left click on the player you wish to pass it to. Upon reaching level 68, you obtain the spell Ritual of Souls. This gives you the ability to create a Soulwell (with the help of two party members) which distributes Master Healthstones to those that right click it - Maximum 10 people or 5 minute duration, which ever comes first. Handy in a group as it only requires one shard instead of five if you were to do it individually, and extremely handy in a raid environment.
A couple of things to remember is never pass a healthstone to someone in combat unless in an extreme situation where it might help save their life. After a big fight, or multiple adds, be sure to ask if anyone used their stone and do they need another, and always watch your shard count, each one of these uses a shard.
Do they have to be a minimum level to use them? Yes. Each healthstone rank has a required minimum level in order to use them.
Can I mail healthstones to my alts? No, unfortunately all conjured items can not be mailed.
Can I give a healthstone to my pet? Unfortunately if your pet is being hurt a lot, the only way to heal him is with your Health Funnel. As we can't pass items to our pets, it is unable to use a Healthstone. You can however heal him with the Funnel and then use the stone yourself.
How much health do healthstones heal? Each rank of healthstone heals a different amount. While rank 1 will heal you a cool 100 hitpoints, the highest amount, available through Master Healthstone at level 68 does a very nice 2080 hitpoints. These amounts are also affected by the Improved Healthstone talent as well as our own Fel Armor. See more about that below.
Can I have more than one healthstone at a time? You can not carry multiple healthstones of the same type. However, you can carry multiples if they are of different ranks, ie a Major and a Master Healthstone. You can also carry multiple healthstones if effected by the Improved Healthstone talent, ie one that is not improved, one that is from a Warlock with one point spent, and a 3rd from a Warlock with two points spent. Please note however that because of the 2 minute cooldown on use, you will very rarely find multiple stones helpful in situations outside a raid.
Note: Improvements As mentioned above, you can spend points in the Improved Healthstone talent under the Demonology tree to increase the healing power by 10% (1 point) or 20% (2 points). On top of this, the 20% improved health generation that comes from Fel Armor will also increase how much your healthstones will heal you for. Unlike the talent improvements that are passed on when you give out stones to others, the Fel Armor buff will only effect your personal use.
Soulstones
What are Soulstones? Soulstones temporarily grant one player the power of self-resurrection. If a player, either yourself or another, is effected by the Soulstone buff when they die, they are given the option to release like normal, or resurrect where they are. The Soulstone buff lasts for 30 minutes and the resurrection effect can be used at any point while it is still active. Note: The Soulstone itself also has a 30 minute cool down timer, this means that only one person every 30 minutes can have the Soulstone buff on them. However, multiple warlocks can soulstone the same individual one after the other, within the 30 minute timer. The time limit only applies to the casting warlock. If the soulstone is used within the 30 minutes, a second warlock can soulstone the same person.
How do I use the Soulstone? In order to place the buff on someone, you need to create the stone first. Once you have the stone in your inventory, you can select any group member or yourself to grant the buff to.
So who should
I put the buff on?
Are Soulstones transferable? In a way, so to speak. Although you can't directly pass them to someone, you place to buff of the stone on them. You must however be in a group or raid to do this.
Can I Soulstone my pet? Although you can place the buff on your pet, you would never need to. If your pet dies, you can just resummon it, and unless it's the imp, it's going to cost you a shard anyway. Not to mention our pets don't seem to have mastered the "click to resurrect" option.
Are there multiple ranks of Soulstones? As with all the other stones, there are multiple ranks, and with each higher rank, your target is restored with a higher amount of health and mana. Please see here for the different ranks and the levels you obtain them.
Spellstones
What are Spellstones? Spellstones are much like the Firestones as they are conjured items that can be equipped in the wand slot. However, instead of increasing your fire damage, they instead increase your spell critical strike rating while equipped and if you right click to "use" the stone, it removes all magic effects. The Spellstone is considered by many warlocks to be a critical conjured item for PVP. While the stone has been changed since it's original version to no longer be consumed upon use, it also no longer grants a buff that absorbs spell damage. Note: The magic wipe has a 3 minute cooldown and like all conjured items, if you are logged out for more than 15 minutes, it will disappear.
Are Spellstones transferrable? Like the Firestone, Spellstones are soulbound and can only be used by the caster.
Can I give the Spellstones to my pet? No, there is no function to give items to your pets at this time.
Are there multiple ranks of Spellstones? There are four ranks of Spellstones, Create Spellstone at 36, Create Spellstone (Greater) at 48, Create Spellstone (Major) at 60 and Create Spellstone (Master) at 66.
Note - Talent Improvements Although I doubt there are many Warlocks out there that would recommend it, Master Conjuror is a talent you can take in the Demonology tree to improve your Spellstones. Two points spent there will increase the spell critical strike rating by 30%.
